Paul Bunyan Playhouse
- Performer, within last year
I was a performer in Paul Bunyan's 2024 Summer season, and I would say I had an overall good experience working with this company. The Theatre is struggling financially and it is hard for them to get a large audience due to the location, but we mad the best of the situation, given we had a twelve person company for three shows that definitely needed more people. We made due, rehearsals were a bit unorganized, but we made it and put on a show. The new management is trying their best to supplement this (frankly) dying theatre, and I think it is admirable.

So I was a part of a show in Paul Bunyan’s 2023 Summer Season. Altogether, I think this is a really solid summer stock option, especially for new actors. I’ll go into more detail below! PAY: This is maybe the worst part. I made $250 a week which is just sillily low. But at the same time, kind of normal for summer stock so I’m not letting it affect my rating too much. Half a star lost here. HOUSING: The housing is clean. We were housed in a dorm building on the campus of a college. Big shared restroom on each floor. No A/C in the rooms, which is the biggest downside of the housing. But we all got single rooms. It was nice to have a space to myself. Half a star lost here. MANAGEMENT: This is where one of the stars is lost for me. There was just a lot of unkindness being thrown at actors throughout the process. It wasn’t unbearable, it wasn’t necessarily toxic, but it was kind of irritating, to be honest. But I hear the management is changing next year, so I gotta assume that’ll be a good thing. Altogether, this is a really good job to submit for when you’re trying to get professional credits on your résumé. But not worth it if you have to pay any kind of rent anywhere. You’ll get to do a book show, most likely meet a lot of kind cast mates, and make a couple of dollars. I’m really glad I did it and I think I would do it again, knowing that the management is switching hands.
