Arkansas Repertory Theatre
- Performer
In these reviews I will be covering compensation, role responsibilities/expectations, housing, amenities (if any were included), the administrative team which will include company management, the general manger, and artistic directors, and lastly the producer(s) if any interaction was had. Creative teams may or may not be included, but only if necessary as they are moving variables and are not directly related to the theaters themselves (unless they are resident directors/choreographers). Administrative teams and producers will be ranked by the following system: Poor, Fair, Good, Very Good, and Excellent. I will be not listing any names to prevent any possible doxing. This experience was from the Winter of 2022 and by far the best experience I've ever had. Compensation: $700/wk. This is certainly a more acceptable rate of compensation for young artists. Though I do believe we can still do better. Role responsibilities/expectations: This is primarily an Equity house, which comes with many benefits to non-eq actors. You are only expected to show up for rehearsal 8hrs a day/6 days per week. Housing: By far the BEST housing I have ever been provided. You are housed in gorgeous apartments about a 5 minute walk from the theater in Downtown Little Rock. Though the area of DTown Little Rock can be a bit sketchy, but for the most part fairly safe. Depending on your union status, you may or may not get your our apartment. Since I was non-Equity, I had a roommate, but we each had private bedrooms with a spacious living room and a beautiful kitchen. Amenities: Wi-fi. Private bathrooms. Washer and Dryer in unit. Cars were provided for the actors. Gym membership at two separate gyms was included. Administrative Team Overall Rank: Excellent Company Management: Excellent - responsive, communicative, attentive, kind, friendly, organized, extremely professional General Manager/Artistic Director: Excellent - incredibly involved, attentive, communicative, extremely professional Producer: N/A 5 stars. For being in the middle of nowhere, this was by far one of the most incredible experiences I've ever had at a theater. With the exception of an unprofessional, unorganized Director that would behave inappropriately towards certain actors, everything about this theater was amazing! I have never before been treated so well and so fairly before. I believe this administrative team cares so much about this theater. I believe this Artistic Director actually loves theater and wants to create the best environment for actors he can. The community, the people involved, and the area were all so lovely. I could go on forever. I HIGHLY encourage you to work here, but as always the choice is yours. Best of luck!
