Hey, friends!! Honestly, not too bad of an experience for a small, non-equity house. Pay-wise, it was sadly average. I started at $370 a week and then moved up to $400 a week in a bigger role. (I say sadly average just because theatres should pay more than this and sadly don’t very often.) The housing is fine! The cast house is very old. It definitely needs a few repairs. But it is clean and doesn’t have any bugs or anything like that. In the winter, we deal with mice sometimes. But altogether, I’ve had much worse housing. I found that the creative team was generally very kind. The highest power at the theatre can sometimes be somewhat rude and say things that most demographics besides old white men know not to say. However, he is not necessarily a part of your day to day experience as an actor, so it usually doesn’t prove to be too much of a problem. The local actors are extremely lovely. There are several actors from the area that do most of the shows there and I found each of them to be professional and kind. Additionally, the whole cast truly seemed kind and they made the experience truly beautiful. Altogether, I recommend it! While it does have its non-equity problems and some issues with the producer, it was truly a good experience, in my opinion.

Upper management needs a reality check on what’s important and what’s not. Nice people, but upper cheaps out. Too many people having to wear too many hats and not being compensated fairly within the middle-low ends of the company. It creates a chain of command issue and things don’t get solved or communicated appropriately. Sidenote: the SM is lovely! Wouldn’t recommend if you’re not a white, cis man— even then, it’s a hit/miss. Pay is 300-420, housing is terrible/gross, company van is dangerous. Backstage is a horror show for space and smell. Very little AC between housing and theatrical space— can get dangerously hot. Heads up: Some rehearsals are held in an uninsulated, concrete warehouse that’s very hard to find, crazy dirty, and has no running water. It’s their scene shop usually, so you also find nails randomly. Wouldn’t return until management shifts and the housing/rehearsal spaces are improved (including laundry access in house— your paycheck will be a break even if you’re lucky). Nothing in the entire city is truly ADA accessible— especially where the theater is involved.

I cannot recommend working here till the management changes! Especially avoid if you are POC,Latin X, or queer! I did not enjoy my time here and will not be coming back or recommending to people. The pay is low, I maxed out at 425 a week, the housing they provide is dangerous as the house looks like it has not been updated since the 90/2000s. The house also DOSE NOT HAVE LAUNDRY. The house feels like a frat house; even when it’s clean it looks dirty. The house is also located 2 doors away from a meth house, several times the cops just randomly come by to make an arrests or deal with a situation. The theater itself also needs to be updated desperately, the stage is uneven, and has several nails sticking out. Dressing rooms are minimal and have no AC in them as well as not being ADA accessible. Lastly the city itself has absolutely nothing to do. Just a few bars and restaurants, nicest one being at the same level as a chili's and a small baseball stadium. The performance week is good do 6 shows a week and only work 4 days a week. Overall if you work here keep expectations low and don’t be surprised if it’s unprofessional.

This is a nice place to work and the theatre is run by a lovely group of people. Everyone works hard and any issue that arose was responded to quickly and competently. I'm echoing the below reviews regarding the housing, pay, and schedule but feel compelled to add: 1) the performance schedule is very reasonable and you will have a lot of down time once the show is up. 2) the no day off during the rehearsal process is dependent per show (likely at the director's discretion). I'd say be prepared for it though. 3) there are ways to make a little extra scratch if you need/want. They're often looking for help running food during dinner service pre-show, or teaching workshops at the student matinees.

Not a bad contract at all. Pay was pretty average, but it feels like they pay you what they can. The theater space is nice, dressing room area and backstage can be a little cramped. Nice people running it, a lot of the cast were locals but they were all very nice and talented. The cast house is about 8 blocks away, and it’s a very large, very creaky old house with some things and rooms that seem like they’re about to fall apart at any given point. Same with the company van. There was only a handful of us from out of town so it was fine, but I could see space becoming an issue with a bigger group, what with small kitchens, limited bathrooms, and just the one van. There’s a gym membership included, and you can eat before the show if you want. Most shows you have to rehearse at the scene shop, which kinda sucks (there's only a port-a-potty there). It should be noted, like in the other review, there is no laundry at the cast house, and there are typically no days off during the rehearsal process

There is a nice group of people running the theatre. I felt like my issues were dealt with quickly and I was treated with respect on my contract. The production quality was pretty good and we are given a free meal before each show. The theatre itself is quite a nice space, though backstage is a bit congested. The pay isn't so great, and their no day off during rehearsal time into first show week is really not acceptable and should be contested. The cast housing is an old but comfy living space and is within walking distance of the theatre, but they do have one company car available as well. No laundry on site, so prep accordingly. Overall the pluses outweighed the negatives for me here and I've had a quite enjoyable time. If you can work here for what they offer, I think you'll have an enjoyable contract. P.S. The fine system in the contract exists, but isn't as heavy handed as it seems. As long as you're doing your best I doubt you'd get fined even if you mess up on one of them. (edited)
