Hangar Theatre

Excellent and important work being done by caring professionals. They may have budget obstacles but I trust this company. (edited)

Pros: - the theatre attracted a great director and MD. - the cast was a great group of people to work with and play! Cons: - the provided housing was disgusting...just YUCK! It also took 3 days during an unprecedented heatwave to get management to buy us air conditioners, even though they worded the welcome email as if all rooms should already have A/C. I know some other cast members lucked out and got better buildings. Apparently housing used to be on the Ithaca campus pre-pandemic, but Hangar lost its Ithaca privileges. - the theatre needs to upgrade their sound system (consistent issues with functionality and mix for the whole run), clean the dressing rooms. - there wasn't a fully-formed team for any department: 2 PAs and 1 ASM doing the jobs of about 14 people. - it was difficult to get certain things I thought would be a given - proper shoes that fit and weren't broken, proper undergarments - and this was mostly due to a very thin spread staff. - the pay is ROUGH. If the housing was better, maybe it wouldn't have felt like such a sacrifice. Reading about the Hangar and its history, I was expecting a very professional, high quality contract. It was disappointingly amateur.

This is a summer stock level job. Iād recommend it only to college kids.

The current Artistic Director is directing most shows, and there were a lot of issues within the company especially post-pandemic. The rehearsal process was difficult due to the lack of preparation from the team, and one of the prod. team members even got reported for Title 9 but was disregarded by HR and the chain of commands, calling all actors who united together to report the matter "divas" EXCEPT the non-bipoc actors which seemed very odd??? The show was incredibly cast driven. There were almost no directions, but when there were, it was counter intuitive. We'd spend an entire 9-6 day rehearsing and blocking 1 scene. Literally. 1. Scene. And that statement is basically the blueprint for how the rest of the process went. Lack of consent, lack of professionalism, and lack of communication. I'd like to think I had the short straw due to being in one of the first productions post-pandemic but from what I understand from word of mouth, it apparently was not so. (edited)
