Always a fantastic rehearsal process with the artistic director. I’ve never been housed so can’t speak on that experience, but I felt very welcomed and included by the production staff at MBT and I always feel great about the quality of work we create.

I loved working at Meadow Brook! The entire production team is super talented and because of it the production value is great. I felt very supported and valued by everyone I worked with at MBT.

The housing is at an Extended Stay America that did not feel safe. Particularly for women of color. Overall, my experience there was fine but definitely request alternate housing.

Great theater to work at.

I am sure other shows are better here. A Christmas Carol was unfortunately not a wonderful experience. Pay is low, housing/transportation not provided. You can negotiate your salary of course. The theatre is very old and rehearsal spaces are small, dusty, and cramped. The children in the show were treated the most horribly, corralled like animals and yelled at constantly, when they were actually great kids. 9-10 shows a week, plus advertising gigs if you are caroler. I felt overall not respected and just another body they needed to use to fill the stage with sound. Basically a glorified cardboard cutout. They hire the same couple of people for the leads and it’s not exactly the most equitable of theatres. The rehearsal process was extremely jarring and I was basically expected to read minds and know what to do, because they hire so many of the same people every year, they didn’t bother to take the time to help the few new comers with blocking or explaining the process at all. Making any choice was looked down upon and immediately remedied with how “it’s always been done”. Very antiquated and run by people who have been there 20+ years and are okay with the inequitable and lazy practices. My biggest gripe was the people hired to carol pre show, as multiple had little/no musical experience and it was made doing my job extremely difficult and downright embarrassing. The costumes and set were beautiful, I will give them that.
