New London Barn Playhouse

I was a non-union guest artist for one show last summer, and I had an incredible experience. The pay wasn’t amazing ($250/wk for 4 weeks, so $1k total), BUT they do house you close to the theatre, provide all meals and pay for transportation! Everyone was so nice and incredibly professional, including the college-aged interns. The whole town loves The Barn as well. There’s a reason why so many of the past Interns return to work there again. Would 10/10 go back!

I haven’t worked here in a long-long time. That being said, based on the reviews it sounds like nothing has changed.

When I did it it was $1200 for the whole summer. That’s all.

Great place to build you resume if you are IN COLLEGE! This is not a job for people post grad.

I appreciate that I got to get some roles on my resume. That being said it’s a grueling process for very little pay. Our generation doesn’t see the “exposure” & “experience” the same way the prior ones did. I think the creative team is going to have more trouble and clash more with Genz and Gen Alpha in the future.

No money too much work. Unless you are a college kid on summer vacation this is a don’t.

Absolutely fabulous place to work!!! If you get the opportunity, TAKE IT! I was a part of the Acting Intern Company and it was and still is the best professional experience I’ve ever had. Keith, Elliot and the entire head team at the barn were so incredible and treated us with the utmost care and respect. The management was incredibly helpful, paid us exactly on time, and showed out to support every single time. The community was so welcoming and loving to all of us barnies (I can’t even count how many times our ice cream/drinks etc. were paid for out of gratitude just because they recognized us from the barn)! We had a few days off and always made the best of them, whether it was a trip to Boston, the beach, or simply hanging out around Colby Sawyer! Housing is dorm style and you will most likely have a roomate but it is comfy and practical, only about a 12 minute walk to the theater! I suggest bringing a car if you have one, as the nearest target/Walmart are over half an hour away. But don’t worry there is a grocery and drug store only a couple minutes away from the theater. Tech duties and turnover are required of acting interns, but it is only two mornings a week/after each closing show and you get to select a preference for your department (set, costumes, kitchen, sound etc.). This place really should be the standard for how summer stocks should treat their actors! Cannot recommend enough! Viva La Barn!!
