I really liked working there. The people that run the theater are super nice, chill, and approachable. The rehearsal and performance schedule isn't very taxing. The pay is low. The housing is good if only two people are living there (it is a two bedroom apartment). It does have a mouse problem. It's just an old apartment in an urban area so there isn't a lot that can be done about it. However, this company has a new performance venue so the housing situation might be changing completely in the near future. The location is great because Allentown is very close to both NYC and Philadelphia. You have multiple days off per week and there are busses that go to both. Overall, I would definitely work there again! Also, they did provide free meals on show days when I worked there. But maybe they did away with that.

Pines Dinner Theatre is a great place for beginners and locals. The talent is always young, fresh, and capable. Ollie, the AD, is a little lazy, and his wife is a little dramatic. The assistant, Stacey Yoder, does everything from running rehearsals, SM-ing, running the kitchen, costuming, set designing and building, and MORE. Stacey is one of the hardest working women in theater. Pay is per-show, and ranges from $200-350 a week depending on what season you're there. They have a very small space in Allentown, PA. They make due with what they have, but it does mean rehearsing while builders are working, and slim pickens for costumes and props. Housing, at least when I was there, was a small, rodent infested apartment above a car mechanic shop. There are two traidtional sized bedrooms, and they can house up to five people PER BEDROOM...so that can get very uncomfortable and cramped. But like I said--good quality theater for those just starting out. I learned a lot. If they like you, they'll keep in touch. Winter shows are where the money is because of all of the added shows. There's quite a few bars and local events downtown Allentown, but I'd suggest you always bring a friend! You don't get free food or anything from the kitchen...unless Stacey REALLY likes you. Enjoy!
