I've done several shows at this company over the years. Their AD is excellent. Not sure about the comment about "community theatre level" but this is an Equity SPT and while they do hire some local folks from the Raleigh area, they also hire union and nonunion actors out of NYC and Chicago. Definitely not a community theatre and the productions are very professional. Housing: they only have people share rooms if they absolutely have to. Everyone gets their own room and there are multiple bathrooms (2 full upstairs and one half downstairs) so definitely not overcrowded. But it is a house full of theater people! Laundry and multiple refrigerators available to artists. Walking distance to theater, grocery, and downtown area with restaurants and shops. They've increased their nonunion pay to start at $400/week. And you can negotiate with the AD who is very reasonable and nice :) Overall positive experiences here. They have an awesome new rehearsal facility and their costume game is usually on point. A couple of negatives: the man they usually use for MD is temperamental and can be difficult to work with & sometimes they cast too many of their teenage students from their educational department.

Filthy, overcrowded housing. Community-theatre-level production.

I've done multiple shows at this theatre. The venue is a renovated 1920s vaudeville house with about 400 seats, and a proscenium stage. Rehearsal studios are in the theatre building next door. The artistic director has a 20+year career as a Broadway performer, and does her best to make sure the shows are high quality and the actors are well cared for. They try to hire NC performers first, and then bring in principals and dancers to fill the cast when needed. Actor housing is in a donated 1920s farmhouse with multiple bedrooms (some sharing, with the bigger shows) that is about a 15 minute walk, 3 minute drive from the theatre. There's a brewery/restaurant, Starbucks, Wing Stop, and grocery store within walking distance from housing, and the downtown is small but undergoing revival. About 30 minutes to Raleigh, the state capitol. Pay is not great - averages 200+ a week for ensemble roles, but the performance schedule is light. Most shows are Thurs-Sunday 5 show weeks, with some optional student matinees.
