https://web.archive.org/web/20190318143356/http://auditionupdate.com/index.php?s=4&v=295 Don’t take anyone word for how bad this place is on this forum. Instead take a look at the archive of the old Gig and Tell on backstage where this theater has terrible reviews dating back to 2012… Job has always been and always will be jank. Don’t work for the theater or THE SHOWPLACE!

I would love to know who they paid off to get off the AEA DNW…

I want to confirm everything that has already been said here. However everyone has neglected to mention THE SHOWPLACE! tbh the ice cream servers are making more than the actors in the shows. This entire setup is complete garbage and chaos.

Ditto everything that has been said. Unless you want to be body shamed for a summer this is not the move.

Former AEA blacklisted theater. Just don’t.

I won’t say what my role here was for the sake of anonymity, but I wouldn’t recommend it. The main problem here is Gail Anderson. She’s the production manager/producer/wife of the AD/whatever other title she wants to give herself. She likes to be in charge and give orders. She likes to tell people off if they don’t suck up to her. I was overworked and underpaid (I worked a lot of 12-15 hour days), as were most of the creative staff, only to get verbally abused by her. While I was there she made two costumers cry simply because they had done something slightly different than what she wanted. She stopped a dress rehearsal for 15-20 minutes and screamed at a costumer because an actor was wearing the wrong jeans. Housing: the cast house is right next to the theater and is very large, while most of the actors I knew shared a room. Then there’s tech house, which is smaller (about 9 rooms), where almost exclusively designers, SM’s, etc are housed. Half the shows are directed and choreographed by Paula Sloan, who is talented and good at what she does. But there’s this weird relationship with her and Gail and Steve, so things can get really toxic really fast. And since they left AEA in 2020, there’s really no protection for artists. Long Beach Island is great. You’re right by the beach, and they hire some wonderful artists, who were the best part of my time there. Just be aware if you’re offered a job here.
