horrendous experience...the housing was fine but the ad literally casts herself in everything and it's embarrassing. not to mention she misgendered me and openly told me a story about a "snowflake" Queer actor that took issue with her in the past.

I had a great time at Cumberland. It's a nice low commitment contract. The environment is extremely fun and everyone is very welcoming. The pay isn't great but considering you only rehearse nights and get monday-thursday off during show weeks it's pretty reasonable. Communication from the AD isn't very good.

When I worked there, I did enjoy working there. It was a fun, short contract. The people were nice and the rehearsal schedule is all evenings due to using locals in the shows as well. So if you have a side remote gig, it's nice. Met some of my closest friends in the industry there. But it did feel like a club trying to get back in or trying to get cast again. The pay isn't worth playing the game. The other reviews are also on point. The AD just chooses what roles she wants in the season... The housing is nice. They have a small apartment under the theatre. For the winter shows they also use a bigger house they can borrow for actors. Sometimes for the summer shows they use hosts houses or airbnbs if needed. If they are doing a show you really want to do or put on your resume, go for it.. but if you are just submitting and doing callbacks.. it's a lot of work for little pay off.

As far as the narcissistic casting ,it’s unbelievable that the Board of Directors does not intervene . As a result the shows are mediocre at best. If that’s a sustainable model all the more power to them. But the reality is people notice and people talk. This will diminish your potential actor base and audience interest. I mean who really wants to see the same people in almost every show ? (edited)

Can confirm that the higher ups just cast themselves in everything, even roles they aren't right for. Which kind of cheapens everything. They'll waste actors time by calling them back for roles, and then just casting themselves/ friends. It's just really community theater feeling.

The artistic director is cast as the lead in six of their shows this season alone. It would be different if they were an incredible singer and actor and if they also auditioned but none of these are true.
