Super cute regional house! As far as non-union houses go, they offer some of the most competitive pay (~$500/week for actors and ~$600/week for musicians, more for MD) and benefits I've seen (housing, travel, several hot meals per week plus a fully stocked pantry in both houses - all included). They operate on a very compressed summerstock-type schedule but performers came in super prepared and it ended up being more than enough time to get in shape by opening night. Creative team and artistic director were super responsive to concerns and questions - I genuinely believe this is a hidden gem theatre and will only increase in desirability as each year passes. They also do shows that are infrequently performed (current season includes Bare: A Pop Opera), so that's an added perk.

I’ve worked at this theatre more than once and while I have my issues each time, they are nothing major and they seem to improve year after year. They are not perfect (hence the 4 stars). Pros: Decent pay for the short rehearsal and show process. There are now multiple houses so you will have to share rooms with less people. (A private room is available upon request) The pantry is well stocked, and while a meal isn’t provided every night, it’s still a nice touch to have a home cooked meal once in a while. The director/artistic director has a vision and is very kind but focused on what he wants. Cons: Long rehearsal days with not a lot of breaks, but it’s non-eq so what can you expect. They cheap out on costumes and order a lot last minute from Amazon. I think it’s one of the things that lowers their show quality. Not a large stage/house Overall, you’ll love this theatre if you come prepared and ready to work. It is a very rigorous, fast paced environment and they expect a lot from you. If you’re able to thrive in those environments then you will love it here.

Working at this theatre has its serious ups and downs. Pros include a competitive non-union salary ($400 per week when I was there in 2023), a fairly well-stocked pantry and a catered meal once per day, a highly effective MD, travel covered, and interesting season lineups of shows that aren’t often done. Cons include: be prepared to share one room with two people and to have extremely limited closet or floor space to unpack anything. Actor housing is shared among 15+ performers and the house is also a storage space, so expect staff from the theatre to come in and out of the house at any hour of the day, including to the bedrooms if they need equipment stored in the room you sleep in. The director of our show made inappropriate comments to some of the women. The box office staff were extremely rude and demeaning towards our cast. Dinner breaks were not scheduled during our tech week (which included back-to-back runs of the entire show with no breaks) and several of our cast members complained and were met very confrontationally by the directing team. The stage floor is uneven, resulting in lots of wobbly action if you need to stand on any platforms or anything high. My personal safety concern was addressed and respected, but others were not. Finally, there are mandatory physical and vocal warm-ups before all shows and some rehearsals which included 20 minutes of cardio and running, before performing the show. Total waste of time and energy, and lack of faith that the actors who they’ve hired are competent enough to know how to warm themselves up. Overall I am giving this theatre three stars because I believe in the theatre’s potential for growth. Our cast was ultimately given dinner breaks during tech after our cast members requested it, and I believe in the Artistic Director’s genuine desire to become a highly sought-after regional theatre to work at. I would work here again for the right show and role, but would advise any actor considering a job here to do their research and be sure it is the right fit for them.

I wanted to jump on here to send a quick warning. I had a very different experience than the other post on here. I worked with this company is 2023, and was really disappointed by the lack of professionalism. There was a serious safety issue onstage during a performance that impacted the entire cast, and the show was not stopped. In fact, when I asked Stage Management why we had not held the show, they responded that there was only 15 minutes left of performance. Actors should NEVER be asked to perform in unsafe conditions, even for 15 seconds. I was shocked at the way they handled this. It was clear that the producing team did not care about our safety. Parents of the cast in the audience were grossed out and concerned that the show wasn't stopped. (Im not saying specifically the safety issue to keep myself anonymous, but trust me: disgusting and unsafe performing conditions). Zero communication from the creative team as problems kept happening. Im not saying never work here, but be aware that they are cutting every possible corner and are not looking out for actor safety.

The theatre staff were extremely welcoming and hospitable. There are two actor houses in Milton. One is right next door to the theatre, and the other house is a short ten minute walk away. The bedrooms were clean and bathrooms/kitchen great as well. Almost everyone shared a room with another actor; we had a cast of 18 total. The small town of Milton is cute, and only a 20 minute drive from Rehobeth Beach. We worked six show weeks, and we were paid promptly. All actors were mic'd. While the contract I worked did not include per diem, the theatre provided a meal almost every day we worked (some were made by community members, while others were catered by local restaurants). The provided food helped me significantly save on groceries and my living expenses. Groceries were replenished a couple times a week by theatre staff. There is not a gym located in the town, but there are lots of sidewalks and the town is very pedestrian-friendly and a great place to run. As a woman, I felt safe walking anywhere during the day, but I always opted to walk with someone on later nights (after 9:00 pm) since the town is extremely quiet and dark. Bring your own undergarments (tights, briefs etc) as the theatre does not provide these. Would definitely work here again! Also seemed to hire really good people on the contract I worked.
