Voice Theatre
- Performer, 1-3 years ago
I was very excited to work on a piece from a classic playwright, but when I arrived, it was evident that the theatre company was a one-woman show. The director was doing everything from picking up performers to arranging housing/transportation. The Stage Management crew was superb, but I'm sure they also had a ton on their plate that wasn't just managing the rehearsals and props. Either way, I felt like there was so much last minute changes and things that were not thought out that it became a less than pleasurable experience. Especially when I was asked to take on a role that governed other performers without added compensation. I also hold the opinion that the director doesn't have a strong ability to find new ways of communicating what she wants when an actor is unclear with directions. It made the process stressful and under-whelming. If I were to go back, it would have to be for a very specific role in a specific show. Although, Kingston itself is amazing and lovely.
