Connecticut Stage Company
- Performer, within last year
This is a short, 1-week contract that is technically a concert or staged-reading version of the show, with an emphasis on staged! There are usually some costumes involved or wardrobe that is suggestive of a character and some light props (actor's choice to use, ofc) It's a whirlwind experience to sink your teeth into a role or a show with a wonderful group of people. Started just a couple years ago by two wonderful (women!) professionals in New Canaan who wanted to bring performances to the community that offered a different flavor than what is usually available in the area. This often means doing deeper or more controversial shows. Up til now they have always performed at the New Canaan Library (a beautiful, small stage at a brand new library that they can kind-of transform into a theatre). Pros: - amazing, kind people, FUN environment. - high caliber performers and excellent work - New Canaan is adorable - brand new non-profit with a lot of potential for growth - these women are PRO networkers. There's usually killer talent involved and high-profile folks in attendance. Kelly O'Hara provided voice acting for a show in their first season, and Kate Baldwin played Marmee in their little women (with a Kennedy Caughell Jo 😱) + more. Super cool to watch them work. - Great music director. The guy they usually have MDing is so smart and great to work with. Cons: - long commute. You take the metro north back and forth (about 2 hours) each morning and night. It is exhausting, but it's only a week.
