The Open Eye Theater
- Performer
The pros: - Beautiful location (right in the heart of the Catskills) with a lot to explore and see - Very kind Artistic Director, Managing Director, and Set Designer - Tight-knit local community who truly value the actors coming in from NYC - IMO, the perfect contract length (about a month long) The cons: - Director was frequently unprofessional and borderline verbally abusive. - Pay is doable for a month (stipend + transportation reimbursement), but definitely lower than most regional theaters. I think I broke even working here — didn’t save or lose money. Neutral - Housing is okay. Not the best or worst I’ve had for non-eq. It’s at a local B&B, but you stay upstairs in the rooms generally reserved for family. Clean and private rooms, but a bit small and dark. Access to hot plate, fridge, and microwave. In summary, I would work here again for another short contract, but not with the same director.
